What Does Fusion Food Mean?

Yesterday, I learned that fusion food is a combination of different types of cuisines. At its core, fusion cuisine blends ingredients, cooking techniques, and flavors from different cultures and culinary traditions to create something entirely new.

A clear example of fusion cuisine is “Crazy Ramen.”

"Crazy Ramen"

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 package of instant ramen

  • 1/4 cup of water

  • 2.5 tbsp soy sauce

  • 1 tbsp brown sugar (granulated sugar also works)

  • 3 tbsp sesame oil

  • 4 cloves of garlic, minced

  • 2 green onion stalks

  • 2 tbsp red chili pepper flakes

  • Sesame seeds (to taste)

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Boil water in a pot and cook the instant ramen noodles according to the package instructions. Once done, drain the noodles using a strainer and set them aside.

  2. In a small bowl, mix the water, soy sauce, and sugar, and set aside. Chop the green onions, separating the white parts from the green parts.

  3. Heat the sesame oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and the white parts of the green onions. Stir and cook for one minute.

  4. Pour in the soy sauce mixture, stir well, and cook for two minutes.

  5. Add the noodles to the pan and mix thoroughly until they are fully coated.

  6. Transfer to a bowl and top with sesame seeds and the green parts of the green onions.

  7. Enjoy!
